Rural Culture on the Edge Hillsboro Historic District4

Comments:  Hillsboro has substantially retained its heritage originating in about 1752 as a mill town by Quaker families from Pennsylvania. It lies along the historic corridor across the Blue Ridge linking Alexandria and Winchester, and blends Federal and frontier German styles. Most homes date from 1805 -1830. Included in this picture are the original 19th century Asa Brown’s Tavern, Silas Marmaduke’s home and tavern, the summer residence of writer Emma D.E.N. Southworth, and Greek Revival home of Dr. Taylor.
