Rural Culture on the Edge The Lake at Wheatland Manor4

Comments:  The swan found in this place is the result of environmental and wildlife habitat restoration. In front of Wheatland Manor on this spot in 1985 was land that, having been used as a feed lot for cattle, was suffering from serious erosion and littered by piles of tires, barbed wire and decayed fencing. When it became clear that the field in front of the Manor was too eroded to reclaim, owner Neil Rackham designed the 10 acre lake that appears in this photograph. It served both to ensure erosion control and build habitat, and helped to win the property a Chesapeake Bay award.
